Field Day 2023 Recap

The Thunderbird Amateur Radio Club’s 2023 Field Day was held at Jack’s NT7MM cabin Northeast of Flagstaff, AZ; Bruce WB7SRC was the coordinator for this year’s event. This year we used the TBARC callsign W7TBC, Class 4E Emergency, Solar, And Battery Power.

We descended on the site Friday morning and set up 2 10 – 80M EFD, 1 10-80M Carolina Windom, 1 10-40M OCFD, and a 6 M beam. Friday afternoon, we tried starting the 6KW Generator; we had it running after some new gas and starter fluid. Next up was setting up the radio stations on Fri night and Sat morning. Digital Station was a Flex 6600M, CW station Flex 6500, Phone Flex 6400, and 6M 7 10M HF was an ICOM 7610. All were online by 10 AM.  Software, networking, and logging were set up, and we were ready to start the event. The 2023 operators are: NT7MM, KC0GU, K7DD, K7TEJ, N9AV, WK7B, KG7COA, KK7DCR, KD7ETQ, WB7SRC, N7VBN, KG7KRN, AF7K, KI7DUV and NJ8G. We when live at 11 AM Sat and ran continually to 10:59 AM Sunday. Total QSO CW 122, Digital 658, and Phone 46 for QSO point score of 1608. Then when we added the power multiplier, media, and educational activity, are final claimed score was 3,862.  Overall, it was a successful weekend with lots of radio time, ham radio discussion, and working with new club members. With a special thanks to the men and women of TBARC for great food. We are all looking forward to 2024 FD.

On Saturday, June 24, the Thunderbird Amateur Radio Club awarded Jack Lunsford NT7MM an Honorary Lifetime Membership Award, In appreciation of his many years of dedicated service to TBARC. He has been the Past President, Member of the Board of Directors, Chair of the TBARC ECOMM group, ARRL TBARC VE coordinator, education chair, and many other unnamed roles he has played over his years of membership in TBARC. Finally, allowing TBARC to overrun his cabin for ARRL Field Day and the AZ QSO Party over many years.

THANK YOU, Jack NT7MM!
