Due to some logistical issues, the program for the October meeting has changed. We are happy to be able to bring you a talk by Ned Stearns AA7A about his DXpedition to South Georgia and South Sandwich islands as part of the Intrepid DX Team.

You might have tried to contact him when the islands were active. Come to the meeting on October 20 to see the challenges he faced and how things turned out.

David Laird KG7NGE volunteered his time to make the necessary adaptations to the TBARC equipment trailer so that our antenna wouldn't rattle around inside, but instead be properly shelved. We've got photographic proof!

Thanks to Alana Laird KG7NGF for taking the pictures. You can see the whole gallery here.

Thanks to Virgil K7VZ for this picture of the TBARC VE team at the August session.

The Thunderbird Amateur Radio Club has established a regular ham license exam session. Our VE liaison, Jim K7EOG has secured a semi-permanent home, and we have a session on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm. It's at the Honor Health Medical Office Building, 19841 N 27th Ave in Phoenix. Because of limited seating, signups are necessary--send email to ve@w7tbc.org for details. If you are a VE and would like to volunteer, use the same address: ve@w7tbc.org.

Thanks to Alana KG7NGF, we have pictures from this year's Field Day. Here are a few:

The turnout was tremendous for the first day of the Technician Class license course. Thanks to Bob KG7FIL, we have pictures of the event. More than 50 people were in attendance, and the first instructor was TBARC club president Gary WK7B.

The 2016 TBARC Hamfest was a great success. Thanks to everyone who attended to make it what it was!

Despite ominous weather the week before, things cleared up on Saturday for a sunny morning. We received very positive feedback about the sessions we had, and are already planning for more next year - this time a little bit later to accommodate everyone's desire to hunt for bargains first.

Our VE session also went well - congratulations to the new and upgraded license holders. Your hard work and study paid off.

We'd also like to thank the TBARC volunteers who did the many jobs that are required to put on a hamfest. You saw some of them helping you find a parking spot, but you may not have seen the others who organized, arranged and otherwise planned for one of the best hamfests in the valley. Thanks to all of you!

After announcing the election results at the banquet on December 8, president Gary Duffield WK7B announced the Ham of the Year. Or, this year, Hams of the Year. We've got two of them:

    • Darren Johnson AF7CO - recognized for always willing to step up and say "yes" to help the club
    • Israel Vicente AD7ND - recognized for his invaluable contributions to keep things working

Congratulations to both Hams of the Year!

At the dinner on December 8, current president Gary Duffield WK7B announced the results of the recent election. Next year's board will be:

    President: Gary Duffield WK7B
    Vice President: Chris Johnson K6OZY
    Secretary: Gary Cline AF7BJ
    Treasurer: Darren Johnson AF7CO
Board Member 2015-2016: Jim Moore WB7ENX
Board Member 2015-2016: Rick Tejera K7TEJ
Board Member 2016-2017: Joe Arnold AD0X
Board Member 2016-2017: Andrew Cornwall KF7CCC
Immediate Past President: Walt Reinert NJ8G

Thanks to everyone who ran for a position this year, whether elected or not. It's people like you whose efforts keep our club strong and vibrant.
