  1. NOAA Weather imaging

OK, so in never ending quest to Nerdvana, I just tracked and downloaded this image directly from the weather Satellite NOAA-18 as it passed over head. Lots of noise in the image (The horizontal streaks), but one can clearly see the cloud cover over central Arizona and northern Baja. Need to calibrate the software a bit to get better images.

I used my Icom IC-7000 into my base VHF\UHF antenna. I see Quadifilar helical Antenna build in my future....

    Nerdy yes, but ya ...
  2. The 6m Moxon

Recently I started to look for a winter project and thought, "I rally need to improve my 6m situation". With that in mind I thought I'd look at some sort of 6m beam. I don't remember exactly wn=hen or why the word Moxon came to mind but it did, Thus is born the 6m Moxon project. The more I researched the moxon design the more I found to like. First is simplicity of construction, It's basically a rectangle of wire. then there is size, compared to a yagi the moxon is lot more compact. Then ...

  3. WAS & more

Got on the air Friday night to work a little JT65 before running out to see a show. Being Close to WAS (needing only SD), I posted on Hamspots.net that I was looking for SD for WAS, and then tuned up 14.076 on 20m. It was pretty busy but I wasnít having a lot of luck making contacts so I went back to hamspots to see if I was being heard. I saw that my earlier post had been answered by N0RQ who said he heard me but I was really weak and getting overpowered by other stations. I recognized his call, ...

  5. The Annular Eclipse of 20 May, 2012

OK, a little diversion from radio. As most of you know, in addition to radio, Iím an avid Amateur Astronomer. The weekend of 18 May provided an opportunity to delve into both hobbies. First up was the AEN-Mar Picnic up in Payson. Each may the hams who volunteer for public service get together for a weekend of Non Public Service socializing. This was my first trip up there and as usual, itís always nice to put some faces to the calls I hear on the radio. A few familiar faces were there as well, Chris ...
